Things we should be talking about in International Education

The discourse around student mobility has altered over the last decade or so. Less emphasis is placed on the idea of trans-national education as a collective good and more focus is given to personal, utilitarian benefits. However, an ill-advised preoccupation with “culture” remains at the heart of the rhetoric. This has condemned international education to the margins of academic relevance and generated an anodyne agenda based on the failure to recognize that the world has changed and, above all, that nations are not aligned with cultures. We are, in short not having serious conversations. In this session, the speakers will review the state of international education and suggest that there is a need for a radical rethink of some core assumptions.

The content of this session is applicable to K-12, PSE and Language.
